One of my friends bought one of these things, it’s still in his closet. Probably 90% of these things are never even taken out of the box. Many of them are based on false theories, like targeted exercise, for example. The people selling these products are the only ones that are successful with them.

Three: The Complicated PhD Eating Puzzle

Some diets should require you to have a PhD before starting them. They are that difficult. Food combining, food exchange, calculating glycemic indexes, eating only at certain times, blood type diets, acid/alkaline diets. These also make it very difficult (if not impossible) to eat at restaurants, or you’re stuck only with salads (no dressing). Even rabbits would have a hard time with these. They also take super-self-discipline to stick to, and don’t work because they aren’t practical.

Because I was so sick of my strict diet I decided to seize this opportunity and make the most of it.

So what did I do?

I chose to completely ditch
my diet and eat whatever I wanted.

(I also quit working out.)

I went to Canada, Alaska, Russia, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and others. And I ate all the local cuisine… including McDonalds and Starbucks overseas! You just can’t escape those guys. And in between all the stops I ate a ton of delicious buffet cruise ship food. I also went out to quite a few bars and night clubs and did a fair share of drinking as well.

I was doing everything “wrong” regarding conventional diet and fitness wisdom. I thought I was doomed to gain at least an extra 30 pounds.

What really freaked me out is that even though my food choices would give the average diet “guru” heart-stopping nightmares, I was not gaining weight at all. In fact I was withering away right in front of my eyes! The scale kept going down, and down, and down.

And when I got back… Instead of weighing 180 pounds. (I am about 5 foot 7)

I weighed 130 pounds! And yes, I was still healthy.

I knew that something amazing was going on there.

Something was working so well that I was too skinny and I wanted to gain a little weight back! Somehow I “magically” lost weight without working out. And I lost the weight while eating the foods I wanted, when I wanted, and however I wanted them prepared.

Disclaimer: Because I say I didn’t work out, I don’t want you to think I just sat in my hotel room and did nothing while I was on my trip. I want to be honest with you and admit that although I didn’t “work out” I did end up walking a lot. (Walking around museums, from trains to hotel rooms, and window shopping around the city.)

That being said, I knew if I could just figure out how I had lost 50 pounds so easily, and put it into a system, then I’d be free to quit worrying about my diet all the time.

Long story short, I basically sat down and went on a crazy research binge and obsessed over discovering the key to replicate my success. My burning questions: What had I done right on my trips overseas, and how did I break all the rules and still get amazing results?

How to Lose Weight and Stay Toned

One major key to staying toned while losing weight might seem deceptively simple, but it really works.

I’m not going to string you along here, I’ll just tell you. Here it is… eat enough protein.

Now that sounds too easy right? But it’s really one of the most effective ways to answer the question “how to lose weight and stay toned.”

Lean muscle is created by protein, and it is your lean muscle that keeps the undersides your arms firm, and prevents them from waving back and forth without your permission. Many people, when trying to lose weight, cut out a lot of their protein sources and when dieting choose salads and vegetables as their main source of nutrition. As a result many good protein sources are left out.

The best protein source I have found when trying to lighten up have been egg whites because they are almost 100% protein, and are absorbed very well by your body. Honestly, they get really old after a while, but I have found some creative tasty recipes to make them more appetizing. One of them is a great protein packed and tasty egg white quiche, it’s really easy to make and is great for weight loss. (I’ll probably show you how to make it in a future video recipe, so be on the lookout.)

I also am a big fan of yoghurt, not the super sugary high calorie yoghurts, but the more natural corn syrup free variety. The brand I love the most only has 110 calories and about 7 grams of protein. If you are careful you will notice even the organic varieties often contain corn syrup, not that there is anything wrong with this, but I have noticed it tends to make foods have more calories. Calories are unfortunately something that has to be managed if you want to lose weight, and the more food I can eat the happier I am, so I pay attention to the “empty” calories my food contains.

The amount of protein you need to have in your diet varies on your weight. You should try to consume as many grams of protein a day as you weigh in pounds. For example, if you weigh 134 pounds you should try to get 134 grams of protein a day, that’s about 536 calories. The great thing about protein is that most high protein foods are very filling.

Whey protein shakes are another great way and easy way to get your protein in. Better quality mixes have at least 20 grams of protein and less than 100 calories.
